The diversity of the monsters is one of the reasons why the doom game series was so popular. In the beginning you fight zombies and imps (brown creatures able to spit fireballs) and at the end of the game you're fighting flaming skulls, gigantic cacodemons capable of firing an energy ball at you as well as extremely powerful demons and mechanical spiders. Aside from all of the monsters Doom is also a bit of a puzzle game with many secret doors and lifts that raise up and down which makes the game much more interesting.
